A Web Services Composition with BPEL for Satellite-Based Land Surface Temperature Estimation

Cristina (Gherghina) Serban, Carmen Maftei, Alina Barbulescu

Abstract

The paper addresses the computation of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Land Surface Temperature (LST) based on satellite imagery for a certain geographic area, the application being implemented as a BPEL process which orchestrates several Web Services. The BPEL process is itself a Web Service, thus we consider it will be useful and convenient for those who study the ground thermal environment and urban heat island effects using Landsat TM/ETM+ thermal band, and that have typical workstations, with no special hardware for image processing and no license for a commercial image processing tool. This step is part of a complex project in which we will develop a Web-based drought
monitoring and irrigation decision support system in Dobrogea, Romania.
