Estimation of Population Median in Successive Sampling

H.S. Jhajj, Harpreet Kaur, Puneet Jhajj

Abstract

In trivariate population, using prior information on population median of one of the auxiliary variable, a generalized estimator of population median of the study variable has been proposed under successive simple random sampling design. The expressions of biases, mean squared errors and their optimum values have been obtained for the case of finite and infinite population. It has also been shown theoretically that proposed estimator is always better than the linear regression type estimator. Numerical illustration of results obtained have also been done by taking populations considered in literature which also show that the proposed estimator is almost two times efficient than the linear regression type estimator.
