Regression Analysis of Dust Formation Processes from Haul Roads on the Coal Open-Pit Mines in Eastern Siberia

S.V. Kovshov, E.G. Buldakova, A.M. Safina

Abstract

The results of full-scale measurements of the dust concentrations level on various types of coatings within the brown coal open-pit mine are presented. As objects of research are presented permanent haul roads with crushed stone coating, as well as with burnt rocks cover. Burnt rocks are extracted along the way from rocks accompanying to brown coal. The results of dust measurements on temporary roads that pass through the surface of the coal horizon directly on the ledges of the cut are also presented.
The analysis of data obtained during the measurement of air dust in the working area of the sections showed that without additional dust suppression, the concentration of dust in certain places can significantly exceed the permissible standards.
In accordance with this, an analysis of the factors significantly influencing the transition of dust particles to a suspended state from road surfaces has been carried out. For this purpose, statistical processing of the data obtained in the course of full-scale experiments by the method of regression analysis was performed. Equations of linear regression of dust concentration from various factors (distance and time) are obtained.
Rational wetting regimes are proposed, in automatic dust suppression systems in the areas of permanent and temporary roads that can be used in conditions of open mining, in order to prevent the development of pulmonary diseases in miners and reduce the dust load on the respiratory system.
