Efficient Estimation of Population Mean in Two-phase Sampling Using Auxiliary Information in Sample Surveys

P. Parichha, K. Basu, A. Bandyopadhyay

Abstract

The present investigation attempts to search out an efficient estimator of population mean in two-phase sampling. Utilising information on two auxiliary variables, one chain-type estimator has been suggested for the estimation of population mean in two-phase sampling and its properties are investigated. The unbiased version of the proposed work has been developed under simple random sampling without replacement scheme. Performances of the proposed estimator have been examined through empirical studies carried over the data set of natural population and artificially generated population. Thus the effectiveness of the proposed estimator is established in practice. Suitable recommendations have been put forward to the survey statisticians.
