Stochastic and Economic Analysis of a 2-out-of-3 unit Ash Water Pump System with Confidence Limits for Failure Rate

G. Taneja, A. Manocha

Abstract

Stochastic analysis of 2-out-of-3 unit standby system has been carried out, wherein the state space and parameter are discrete and continuous respectively. A reliability model of a 2-out- of-3 unit cold standby redundant systems with two types of failure as well as two types of repair facility has been developed. A failure unit is undertaken by an ordinary repairman, If he shows his inability to perform the task of repair/replacement within tolerable time, another repairman, known as an expert repairman is called to undertake the unit for repair/replacement. A real situation is modeled by collecting data on failures/repairs of ash water pump system from National Fertilizer Limited (NFL), Panipat. Bartlett’s test is applied to see whether the failure times follow exponential distribution or not. Confidence interval for failure time is also evaluated. Various measures of system effectiveness are obtained using semi-Markov Processes and Regenerative Point Technique. Profit incurred on the system is evaluated. Economic aspect is studied through graphs.
