Overcoming the Structural Adversity of Sugarcane Bagasse with Updated Pretreatment Methods: A Step Towards Ecological Energy Balance
Sugarcane bagasse (SCB) is one of the most inexpensive and abundantly produced agro-industrial waste, which provides a natural biodegradable resource for cost-effective bio-energy production. For commercial utilization of SCB, economic and technological factors need a clear identification and discussion. This review revisits the different modes of valorization process which was brought into an application during the due course of time. Pre-treatment is successfully applicable towards improved digestibility of cellulose by enzyme accessibility to the substrate because of the recalcitrant biological structure of SCB. The scope and bottleneck involved in the effectiveness of this procedure have been identified and mentioned here. The relative advantages of pre-treatment processes along with existing challenging methods and various advanced combinatorial methods have been discussed here. The present study will be helpful for designing advanced pretreatment methods to maximize the yield of desired platform chemicals to obtain a sustainable bioenergy market in the future.
