Attaining Sustainable Development via Carbon Trading: A Feasibility Analysis

Md Imdadul Haque

Abstract

Environment is an asset which provides for life sustaining systems. As a developing country like India strives for rapid economic growth, its massive poor population will put tremendous strain on the environment. Also, India has huge differences with respect to various socio-economic and environmental factors between its states. While analyzing the validity of the relationship between growth, poverty and environmental factors at the country level this study advocates the application of inter-state carbon trading as a solution to bring compatibility between otherwise conflicting issues of economic growth and environmental conservation.

Keywords

Environment, poverty, sustainable development, carbon trading.
