Exponential functions based skull stripping method for T2 magnetic resonance images
Abstract
In this paper, we proposed a novel skull stripping method for T2 MR Images. To extract the brain region, an exponential function with least square error correction is applied on T2 MR Images and then to produce a brain boundary, 2D region growing method is used to connect all the pairs. After 2D region growing method, a binary dilation operation is performed to recover the brain pixel which has the exponential value less than one. The dilated binary image is taken as the final brain boundary and the area inside the boundary is extracted from the original MR images as a brain region. The result and discussion part shows that, proposed method can easily identify the boundary region of an image to separate brain portion and skull directly with less processing time comparing with existing methods.
