Imaging Seismic Data Using Inverse Scattering Theory

Kristin Soriano, Theerapan Oonlamom, Bogdan G. Nita

Abstract

In this paper we describe the steps for testing a seismic imaging method derived from inverse scattering theory. We use four geological acoustic models in which the only parameter present is the speed of sound propagation. For simplicity, this parameter is assumed one dimensional, i.e. it only changes with depth, and piecewise constant. First we simulate data collection over these four models, then we process the data and image it with a constant reference velocity. The results are compared, conclusions are drawn and future work is discussed.
