Natural Pine Communities of the Onon-Argun Steppe

Abstract



The studies revealed that in the result of fires area of natural pine forests reduced to 10-15% in the Onon-Argun steppe. Danger of complete demolition of natural communities remains in place. Under the circumstances the aim of the research was to determine phytocoenotic structure, floristic composition and vitality of forest communities, as well as to determine trends of their further development.
Forest flora encompasses approximately 50 species of higher vascular plants. Dendranthemum zawadskii (Herbich) Tzvel.s.str., Lespedeza juncea (L. fil.) Pers. and Thalictrum appendiculatum C.A.Meyer are highly consistent. Lichens grow on pine trunks up to height of 5-6 m, predominantly Flavopunctelia soredica (Nyl.) Hale. Mosses are less frequent, such as Rhytidium rugosum (Hedw.) Kindb.
