Glued Bivariate Poisson distribution for Earthquake Data Analysis

Ramalingam Shanmugam

Abstract

This article examines whether “geologic glue” exists in tectonic plates as a factor controlling earthquakes. Because pertinent databases do not have direct observation on geologic glue effect, it is treated as a parameter in a new glued bivariate Poisson (GBP) in this article. A methodology based on GBP is constructed to understand patterns of earthquakes in African, Antarctica, Arabian, Australian, Caribbean, Coco’s, Eurasian, Indian, North American, Pacific, Philippine, South American, and Scotia tectonic plates. This novel approach helps to precisely predict earthquakes.

Keywords

Conditional, marginal Poisson distributions, correlation.
