Link Dynamics in 3-Dimensional Mobile Wireless Networks

H. Y. Zhang, K. Zhuo, B. Zheng

Abstract

3-Dimensional Mobile Wireless Network, such as 3-D Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), whose network scenario is distributed on 3-D space, is a special case of mobile wireless network. In 3-D mobile wireless networks, nodes can move in 3-D space, which leads to a little difference in link dynamics with the traditional 2-D environment. Therefore, analysis of link dynamics is a fundamental issue in the studies of 3-D mobile wireless networks, the conclusion of which can be the basis of the design of network protocol. In this paper, we create a probability model and derive some analytical expressions for the expected link lifetime and its distributions in 3-D mobile wireless networks. Finally, we verify the accuracy of the analytical expressions through simulations. The conclusion is valuable for the research and application of 3-D mobile wireless networks.
