Survival analysis and cox proportional hazard are commonly used statistical tests in the field of cancer chemotherapy are where surviving each day is important for the patient. It is often difficult to say that one drug improves the survival compared to others. This method if used aptly helps to give a good inference about the conducted trial. Moreover understanding the method is important to avoid incorrect explanations of the test and selecting improper treatment for the patient. It also avoids false hopes that treating physicians can give if they are not knowing the statistical limits of a test. This review deals with the basic concepts of these tests and its exact explanation in a researcher’s point of view giving due respect to mathematical part also.
