Internet of Things Connected Smart Farm Solutions for Sustainable Agro-ecological and Rural Development

Dheerendra Singh Gangwar, Sanjeev Tyagi

Abstract

Climate smart agriculture is a matter of serious concern for the global policy makers. Various International Organizations, Government Agencies and Corporate Houses are working together in this direction. Technological interventions in the field of agriculture and food production are required to improve the quality and quantity of farm products with reduced production risk. It also reduces environmental cost of agricultural production. Recent developments in the fields of smart transducers (IEEE 1451) in close association with Low Power Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) standard, are offering many innovative Agro-ICT solutions for various agricultural applications focusing towards sustainable agro-ecological and rural development. In such applications Internet of Things (IoT) connected farm equipments also play an important role in acquisition, processing, analysis and dissemination of information. IoT connectivity extends the concept of ubiquitous computing with heterogeneous smart devices integrated with interoperable communication technologies. The motive of this paper is to investigate the State of Art Agricultural information systems that are used to provide flexible control mechanism for agro-ecological resource management.
