A Study on VANET Congestion Control with Data Aggregation

M. Bilal Azarudhen, B.S. Deepapriya

Abstract

Car-to-Car Communication (C2CC) is an important research and future application topic which is getting increasing attention from all major car manufacturers. Direct communication between individual vehicles can significantly increase passenger safety and comfort. An example is the exchange of traffic information, as in the novel Self-Organizing Traffic Information System (SOTIS). SOTIS is a decentralized information system which uses a technique called Segment-Oriented Data Abstraction and Dissemination (SODAD) to solve two of the most pressing challenges for C2CC: required penetration and scalability. In order to demonstrate the SOTIS idea and as a proof-of-concept, a SOTIS prototype has been implemented based on commercially available standard hard- and software. Data Collection is considered as an inherent challenging problem to Vehicular Ad-Hoc networks which can be implemented using well known other protocols.
