Abstract

This paper describes an attempt to apply a tomographic imaging technique to the Kamojang geothermal field located in West Java, Indonesia using microseismic event data. In this study, initial locations of microseismic events were first determined using the Geiger Adaptive Damping (GAD) method. We then improved the locations of these events by relocating hypocenters using a double-difference event location technique. Our results show that the relocated events are concentrated in the northeastern, central, and southwestern parts of the seismographic station network. The events seem to be clustered at depths of 0-2 km below the mean sea level (MSL) in the northeastern part, 0-1 km below MSL in the central part, and 0-8 km below MSL in the southwestern part of the studied area. Furthermore, we derived a Vp/Vs ratio model from 3D seismic tomographic imaging results. The Vp/Vs ratio clearly depicts a low anomaly close to the center of the study area, which may be related to a steam-dominated reservoir. In addition, we proposed a conceptual model for the Kamojang geothermal reservoir constructed from the Vp/Vs ratio model.
