The Optimized use of Fan Beam Resolution Geometry for Image Reconstruction to Maximize Entropy, PSNR and Processing Speed

Shaifali Pande, Dibyendu Ghoshal

Abstract

An algebraic iteration method has been followed to optimize the fan beam geometry used in image reconstruction to maximize the entropy, peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and processing speed. The present study has indicated an optimum value of ray resolution, the distance between the radiation source and the center pixel of the image of the object
to be reconstructed such that a maximum value of entropy, PSNR and processing speed may be achieved. The study has also established that image reconstruction based on fanbeam geometry through back projection of the radiated beam is suitable not only in medical imaging but also in other types of images (positive or negative) acquired by any radiation source in the electromagnetic spectrum.
