Calibration and variogram analysis in a small forest area

Abstract


The combined use of field measurements, statistical analysis and remote sensing measurements allows understanding the complexity of ecological forest landscapes. In this work we analyzed data from a small forest landscape to estimate forest tree diameter, a variable often used in ecological research literature. Based on 40 forest inventory plots field measured in one Alpine watershed, we compared a calibration model with remote sensing auxiliary data to a spatial dependence regression kriging model which use only field measured interdependence. The use of the comparison of statistical techniques proposed is innovative for the study of small forests.
