Daisy Das, S. Borbora, M. K. Dutta

Abstract

ABSTRACT
This work is an attempt to assess quality of life in the context of living environment. Environmental quality changes mainly because of anthropogenic activities in almost all cases. The present day environment is an artifact of manmade environment resulting from urbanization. No doubt urbanization brings positive externalities but it is also associated with some negative externalities. But such negative externality becomes more powerful when urbanization takes place haphazardly. The main objective of this paper is to find the significant dimensions of quality of life in living environment. In this study quality of life has been defined more broadly to include not only the condition of life circumstances, but also respondent’s subjective evaluation of such circumstances. It has been found in the study that besides material condition satisfaction from such condition is also important. In addition to these two factors environmental pollution, mode of travel, sense of security and accessibility of service are also important in human life.
