Environmental Pollution Reduction by Energy Saving in Paddy De-husking Units – A Case Study

S. Ganesan, V. Dhulasi Birundha, D. Bose

Abstract

Energy plays an important role in industrial production. Apart from the four factors of production, energy acted as the fifth factor of production. Rapid industrialization and intensive use of energy has resulted in energy crisis on the one side and environmental damages on the other side by emitting Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Conservation through improvement in the technologies is one of the important and effective solutions for the problems of energy crisis and environmental damages. Several studies reveal that there is amble change for energy conservation in the industrial sector, but the barriers identified to tap this potential are: lack of information on options for achieving energy conservation, lack of capital for technology up-gradation, inadequacy of institutional arrangements and lack of proper pricing policies.
