Basic Density and Strength Properties Variations in Cordia Africana (Lam) Grown Under Agroforestry in Arumeru, Tanzania

C. P. I. Mahonge

Abstract

Variations in basic density and strength properties of Cordia africana (lam) grown under agroforestry in Arumeru district Arusha Tanzania were determined. Tree sampling procedure and data collection based on standard methods (ISO 3129.of 1975). The main results indicated that basic density increased significantly from the pith to the bark and in axial direction it decreased from 1.3 m to 30% of tree height then it increased to the top of the tree. Positive relationships existed between strength properties and basic density. It was recommended that similar studies in other agroforestry systems are required for C. africana so that to make strong recommendations for its efficient utilization.
