Fuzzy AHP Method for Assessment of Urban Community Landscape Environment Satisfaction

Yichuan Zhang, Lei Feng

Abstract

The urban community landscape quality is closely related to the physical and mental health of the public as an important component of the environmental quality of a community. The satisfactory level of the community public on the landscape environment can be used to guide the construction of the community landscape. The present paper adopted fuzzy AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method to perform satisfactory level assessment over the community landscape environment based on ecological environment, site environment, cultural environment and spatial environment, in five communities of Xinxiang City, Henan Province, China. These aspects of environment were divided into 12 indices: green area ratio, vegetation quantity, activity sites, landscape infrastructure, road organization, cultural atmosphere, artistic quality, humanitarian care, spatial gradualness, spatial diversity and spatial illumination. The AHP method was used to screen the assessment factors and the weight of each index, which were composite with public survey data to yield the satisfactory level assessment result vector. Following that, the satisfactory level score of each single factor and the overall satisfactory level score were calculated. It was shown that this method could quantitatively evaluate the landscape environmental quality of the community, and was useful for the comparison between multiple communities and providing scientific basis for the overall enhancement of a community's landscape environment.
