Buckling Load for Stepped Column

A. John Wilson

Abstract

A novel approach to determine an approximate lower bound buckling load for stepped column is presented. In this paper a finite difference scheme is used to represent the fourth order differential equation for the stepped column. A proposed method is introduced to find the buckling load for stepped column. Recurrence relations are developed for the coefficients of the characteristic equation, from which the approximate lower bound buckling load for the column is calculated. The buckling loads for different combinations of end.
