A Comparative Study of Higher Order Effects on the Boundary Layer Flow of a Dilatant Fluid: Flow Near a Stagnation Point

Abstract


In this work, we have presented an analytico-numerical study to investigate steady twodimensional flow of a special type of non-Newtonian fluid near a stagnation point. It is assumed that the apparent viscosity of the non-Newtonian fluid is a polynomial function of the second invariant of the rate of strain tensor. The boundary layer equations governing the flow have first been subjected to a perturbation expansion, leading to a system of ordinary differential equations, together with appropriate boundary conditions. The set of various order equations has been solved numerically. The effects of first, second and third order terms in the perturbation expansion have been brought out by illustrating both longitudinal and transverse velocities in the boundary layer. We have also tabulated values of wall skin friction for various orders. The relative influence of various order terms as well as the non-Newtonian parameter have been analyzed.
