Human Eyes Tracking in Fatigue Driving using Mean-Shift Algorithm

Qiufen Yang, Weihua Gui, Huosheng Hu

Abstract

Today, with the rapid economic development, the number of global automobile continuously rise, global road safety issues has become a hot issue, while fatigue driving is a major cause of traffic accidents. To solve this problem, we conduct a study on fatigue driving, with emphasis on the human eyes tracking of fatigue driving detection devices, human eyes tracking is a critical step in fatigue driving detection system. Firstly, list three common human eyes tracking algorithms, and analyze their shortcomings. Then, describe the extended Mean-Shift algorithm proposed in this paper. Although the general Mean-Shift algorithms’ computation quantity is less and their real-time property is good, in cases with many background colors, the human eyes tracking can’t be conducted stably, which is strengthened in this paper. Simulation results show that the accuracy of extended Mean-Shift algorithm proposed in this paper is better, and under the condition with many background colors, it is still able to stabilize the human eyes tracking.
