Simplified Log-Map Algorithms For Turbo Decoding Based on Taylor Series

Jianping Li, Jian Wang

Abstract

In this paper, we propose several novel methods to simply Log-MAP algorithm. Firstly, a new function is proposed to replace the logarithmic term in the Jacobian logarithmic function based on Taylor series, which can offer the best approximated accuracy compared with the existing methods. Secondly,we exploit a piece-wise ladder function to approximate the logarithmic term. Lastly, to further simplify the complexity, we omit some unnecessary computation utilizing mathematical statistics. Simulation results show that our algorithms can obtain almost equivalent performance to the Log-MAP algorithm while its complexity is close to the Max-Log-MAP algorithm.
