An Ordered Difference Statistics for Mixed Impulse Noise Pixels Detection

P.S. Periasamy, K. Duraiswami, S. Athinarayan

Abstract

Detection or reduction of impulse noise is a very active research area in image processing. In this paper, we propose a local image statistics for identifying noise pixels in image corrupted with impulse noise of random values. The statistical values of ODS will quantify how different in intensity the particular pixels are from their most similar neighbors. The experimental result shows that the proposed statistics performs remarkably well, both in terms of quantitative measures of signal restoration and qualitative judgments of image quality.
