Alternate Solution Method to Richards Growth Equation and Application
Abstract
In 1959, F.J. Richards proposed a growth equation to help in the study of some biological growths. The equation (widely known as Richards Equation) has since been applied to study other types of population growths in epidemiology. The purpose of this note is to discuss an alternate solution method for Richards Equation as a case of Bernoulli differential equation, and to fit the function to Ebola epidemic data in Guinea. We also discuss how to apply the function to estimate the basic reproductive number for the epidemic.
Keywords: Richards growth equation; Bernoulli differential equation; basic reproductive number.
