An Analysis of the Surveillance Image Monitoring System Using Multi-Image Stitching

Jeong-Tak Ryu, Donghwoon Kwon

Abstract

In this paper, we implemented a real-time image stitching system based on the assumption that a camera is in a fixed position. The implemented system is composed of two main modules i.e. geometry estimation module and image stitching module. The geometry stitching module is mainly used to calculate a homography matrix, which does not require repetitive calculations in a fixed multi-camera environment, after extracting features from multi images based on a SURF algorithm. The image stitching module, on the other hand, produces a panoramic image after image warping and blending are applied. The remarkable advantages of our proposed system are less complexity, high quality panoramic images, and real-time processing. We expect that this implemented system can be applied to various fields such as sports broadcasting, surveillance camera, etc.
