Speckle Noise Reduction in SAR Images Using Neuro-Fuzzy Approach

S. Vijayakumar , V. Santhi

Abstract

In remote sensing applications SAR images play a vital role. But SAR images are affected with speckle noise to greater extent due to the coherent imaging system. Speckle noise is a kind of noise that gets multiplied with pixel intensities. In this paper, computational intelligence based approach is proposed to remove speckle noise by preserving edges and texture information. The proposed system uses adjacency relations and basic topology to perform filtering operations. In particular, in this proposal type 2 Neuro-Fuzzy approach is used to speckle noise form SAR images. Experimental analysis is carried out with test images and its performance is measured through objective metrics. The obtained results proved the efficiency of the proposed approach in speckle noise reduction.
