Abstract

Shearlets as a novel Multiscale Geometric Analysis (MGA) tool are equipped with a rich mathematical structure similar to the wavelets transform, which are associated to a multi-resolution analysis. Recently, shearlets have been used in image denoising, sparse image representation and edge detection. In this paper, we propose a new approach for satellite image merging based on the Fast Finite Shearlet Transform (FFST) devlopped by Sören Häuser and applied to images acquired by Indian Remote Sensing IRS-1C. We have compared our method with others based on the multiresolution decomposition obtained using the “A trous” and Haar discrete algorithms of wavelet transform. The numerical experiments presented in this paper demonstrate that the Discrete Shearlet Transform is very competitive in image merging.
