An Efficient Class of Estimators of Population Mean in Two–Phase Sampling

G. N. Singh, S. Maurya, M. Khetan

Abstract

In this work a class of chain type estimators in two-phase sampling has been proposed to estimate the population mean of the study variable when the information on another additional auxiliary variable is readily available while the population mean of the main auxiliary variable is unknown. The bias and mean square error of the proposed class of estimators have been derived and its theoretical properties are examined. Empirical studies have been carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed class of estimators. Suitable cost functions have been considered and the expressions of optimum sample sizes are derived. Results are interpreted and suitable recommendations have been made.
