Convert an Image to Facial Caricature using Seam Carving

Fatin Sadiq Alkinani, Abdul Monem S. Rahma

A facial caricature is a distorted drawing or likeness, done for exaggeration. This paper proposed a new system to design caricature. It uses Active Shaped Modeling to deform facial objects. These objects counted as three: nose, mouth, and eye with an eyebrow. Then the area that surrounded each object and not overlaps with the other object is extracted. Objects with its surrounded areas are used as inputs to the newly designed model for creating caricature subjects. This model is designed by applying a seam carving technique. functioned changing the size of each object and its surrounded area by either stretching or shrinking. A comparison between the original face landmark and the output image based on Euclidean distance is applied as a metric to determine the likeness of the caricature. The results show that the minimum percentage of the degree of likeness(similarity) is 40 %, and the average of all similarity percentages is 80%.
