Single-Channel Fetal Electrocardiogram Extraction By Segmentation of the Time-Scales Image

Abstract



This article deals with the use of both image and signal processing for Blind Source Separation of fetal electrocardiogram signal FECG, when given only a single channel recording. The Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) allows a 2D representation of a 1D signal, where the FECG waves are well-localized and isolated. The segmentation using Otsu's method of this 2D representation enables the estimation of the CWT of each wave. Then, by estimating the inverse Continuous Wavelet Transform (ICWT), the time representation of the wave is recovered. The continuity from one trace to the other enables the tracking of the waves from one image to the next. Thus, the whole profile can be treated automatically. This algorithm has been validated on several real data.
