Phase congruency-based Measure for Quality assessment of the Compressed Retinal images

S. R. Nirmala, S. Dandapat, P. K. Bora

Abstract

This paper presents a new feature based measure to evaluate the quality of compressed digital retinal images using two-dimensional phase congruency (PC), which is invariant to changes in illumination and contrast. The retinal images have been compressed and decompressed using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) algorithm for different compression ratios. The quality of the reconstructed image has been evaluated using objective and subjective measures. The experimental results show that the proposed measure is correlated well with subjective measure compared
to the mean square error (MSE), peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and structural information based similarity index (SSIM).
