Group Testing Through Block Testing Algorithm

S. Maheswaran

Abstract

In many situations, items can be classified as defective or non-defective and the objective is to identify all the defective items, if any, in the population. The concept of group testing deals with identifying all such defective items using minimum number of tests. This paper discusses probabilistic group testing with two different proposed strategies. The algorithms proposed are complete inspection of defective blocks algorithm in which a block tested positive will be subjected to individual testing of every unit of the block and the other algorithm namely sequential inspection of defective blocks algorithm in which a block tested positive will be subjected to a sequential testing algorithm. The proposed algorithms are validated using simulation for combinations of group size and the incidence of probability and implications are drawn. Finally, the relative efficiencies were calculated to compare the proposed strategies.
